Heather A. Kendall’s A Tale of Two Kingdoms and God’s Unfolding Story of Salvation (Review)

Mosaic Reviews was kind enough to provide me with complimentary copies of these books in exchange for my honest review.

A Tale of Two Kingdoms by Heather A. Kendall

  • Suitable for older teenagers and adults
  • Includes a timeline of the Bible
  • Includes all of the Old Testament prophets
  • Told from the point of view of God, Satan, and people

A Tale of Two Kingdoms is an intense look at the history and creation of Holy Scripture and how salvation is the result of conflict between the kingdom of Christ versus the kingdom of Satan.  The Scriptures are presented in a manner that many including myself may consider challenging to interpret, but lends itself well to discussion and further study. This is an excellent choice for eager theologians and those that want a more in depth historical look at Scripture.  Devotional aids, labeled as “Points to Ponder” are included at the end of each chapter.  The author also offers her own testimony throughout the book and provides a timeline, maps, and an index to aid in further study.

God’s Unfolding Story of Salvation:  The Christ-Centered Biblical Storyline by Heather A. Kendall

  • Suitable for older teenagers and adults
  • An individual or group Bible study
  • Thirty-eight lessons of questions
  • Present day application in each lesson
  • May be used in conjunction with A Tale of Two Kingdoms or alone

God’s Unfolding Story of Salvation is a bible study that allows for immersion in a Christ centered historical look at Scripture.  Each of the 38 lessons offers questions that reinforce the student’s comprehension, understanding, and remembrance of Scripture.  Application, reflection, and summary sections are offered at the conclusion of each lesson.  This is an excellent resource for student’s interested in reviewing the stories of the Bible and reflecting on each tale’s place in the overall big picture of the Bible.  In my opinion, this bible study is more appropriate for group centered study, preferably with a knowledgeable leader as opposed to independent bible study or devotion.
